About Sunpointe Investments
Sunpointe Investments is a 100% employee-owned, SEC-registered investment advisor and multifamily office based in St. Louis, Missouri. We help high net worth families create clarity from complex financial data so they can make confident decisions. Services include portfolio management, comprehensive financial planning, asset allocation and manager selection, access to alternative investments, consolidated reporting, and coordination with legal and tax professionals. We chose the name Sunpointe because we want to shine a bright light on the issues larger firms often obscure — including fees and conflicts of interest.
Sunpointe was founded in 2016 and has been serving clients for roughly a decade. The founding partners have worked together for nearly 20 years, bringing deep institutional and private wealth experience to every client relationship.
Sunpointe was founded by Michael Pompian, who serves as Founder and Chief Investment Officer and is credentialed as CFA, CAIA, and CFP, and Jack Dwyer, who serves as President and Senior Wealth Advisor. Jack is a CFA and CAIA charterholder with experience in institutional portfolio management, manager research, and multi-asset investing, and he works closely with families on complex wealth planning and investment strategy. The advisory bench includes professionals such as Lee Boudouris, CAIA, Director of Research, and other private wealth advisors and associates highlighted on the firm’s team pages.
Sunpointe Investments combines institutional grade research and alternative investment access with boutique, high touch service focused on multifamily office needs. The firm explicitly embeds behavioral finance into its philosophy, helping clients avoid emotional decision making while coordinating complex tax, estate, and administrative details under one roof. Sunpointe also prides itself on having the latest technology for the benefits of its clients.
Sunpointe primarily serves high net worth and ultra-high net worth families, family offices, private foundations, and select institutions seeking multifamily office support. Many clients are entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners, particularly in the technology and biotech sectors. The firm also works with a broader base of retail investors through its SEC-registered advisory practice.
Wealth Management & Financial Planning
Wealth management at Sunpointe Investments is a holistic service that integrates investment management, financial planning, and behavioral coaching to support long-term family objectives. Advisors address investments, cash flow, retirement, tax and estate coordination, and philanthropic goals within a unified strategy. Rather than white glove service, we strive to provide garden glove service, where we are willing to work hard and get involved in the intricate details of a client’s financial life to build a plan that will grow a client’s portfolio and family over time.
Sunpointe builds every financial plan around each client’s specific objectives, time horizon, cash flow needs, and risk tolerance. Advisors use behavioral finance tools to understand how clients think and feel about risk, so recommendations align with both their financial capacity and their emotional comfort.
Working with a Sunpointe financial advisor typically begins with an initial discovery meeting, followed by data gathering and goal setting. From there, advisors design a plan and portfolio, implement the strategy, and monitor progress on an ongoing basis. Advisors meet with clients periodically to review results, adjust for life changes, and update allocations as markets and circumstances evolve.
For many of our relationships, the Sunpointe advisor acts as the family’s financial quarterback, coordinating with their accountant, estate attorney, to make sure that their investments, financial planning, tax planning, and estate planning are all integrated. [JD5] Sunpointe uses the financial plan as the blueprint for asset allocation, portfolio construction, and withdrawal strategies. Investment decisions—such as risk level, liquidity profile, and use of alternatives—are tied directly to funding specific goals like retirement, education, giving, and legacy.
Sunpointe helps clients define their retirement lifestyle goals, model income and spending scenarios, and determine sustainable withdrawal rates. Advisors design diversified portfolios, tax-aware distribution strategies, and ongoing review frameworks to keep clients on track as markets and personal needs change over time.
Behavioral finance is central to how Sunpointe Investments works with clients. Founder Michael Pompian has written five books on the subject, and the firm applies those principles directly to planning and investment decisions. Sunpointe advisors work to identify and reduce emotional and cognitive biases, keep clients focused on long-term objectives, and deliver education and communication that supports better decision-making. This philosophy is reinforced through ongoing thought leadership and blog content.
Family Office & Complex Services
A family office is a dedicated advisory structure that manages the financial, administrative, and legacy needs of wealthy families, often including investments, reporting, tax and estate coordination, and philanthropy. Sunpointe supports existing family offices by providing specialized support and can help a family decide on what structure works best for them. Many multigenerational families decide they don’t want the complexity or expense of directly employing family office staff and in those cases, Sunpointe operates as a multi-family office, allowing families to access these capabilities without the expense and complexity of a single family office.
Sunpointe helps families pass along family values, not just account values. The firm helps families align investment strategy with long‑term goals like inheritance, education funding, and philanthropy, while coordinating tax and estate structures. Advisors facilitate conversations across generations, design portfolios with multiple time horizons, and support governance and education so heirs can steward their wealth responsibly.
Sunpointe’s family office services include investment management, financial planning, consolidated reporting, coordination with legal and tax advisors, next-generation education, family governance, and charitable giving strategies. For investment management, Sunpointe helps families define their goals, select a target asset allocation, and choose managers to build out a diversified portfolio. For family governance, Sunpointe can help craft a family mission statement and core values and communicate those effectively to future generations.
Yes. While outside attorneys draft documents, Sunpointe collaborates closely with estate planners to ensure investments and account titling support the overall estate strategy. Advisors help model scenarios, provide data and reporting to attorneys, and implement beneficiary, trust, and entity structures within client portfolios.
Investments & Risk
Sunpointe builds portfolios using an institutional asset allocation framework that blends traditional assets, including mutual funds and ETFs, with select alternatives and specialized strategies. The firm emphasizes rigorous manager due diligence, diversification across asset classes, and ongoing monitoring with the flexibility to adapt as conditions change.
Sunpointe’s risk management philosophy starts with aligning portfolio risk to each client’s goals and tolerance. The firm uses broad diversification and alternative assets to improve risk-adjusted results. Behavioral finance awareness plays a key role in keeping clients invested through market volatility and reducing the risk of emotional decisions that can derail long-term plans.
Sunpointe monitors portfolios on an ongoing basis and conducts formal reviews at least semi-annually. Clients can expect regular meetings and communication, as well as timely adjustments when markets move significantly or when major life events occur.
Yes. Sunpointe has a longstanding history of investing in alternatives and provides access to specialized funds and unique asset classes typically associated with institutional platforms. This can include private market opportunities and niche strategies intended to enhance diversification and long-term returns. Three members of our team hold the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.
Through its concierge and family office services, Sunpointe regularly coordinates with clients’ CPAs to align portfolio decisions with tax planning. This includes sharing reports, planning for tax loss harvesting and gains realization, and structuring accounts and withdrawals to support overall tax efficiency.
Fees, Onboarding & Logistics
Fee transparency is one of Sunpointe’s core values. The firm charges investment advisory fees as described in its Form CRS and ADV, typically as an asset-based fee on managed accounts. Sunpointe also offers flat-fee arrangements for some clients. Any additional costs, such as fund expense ratios or custodial charges, are disclosed separately so clients understand their total costs.
Onboarding at Sunpointe begins with an introductory meeting and information gathering, including account statements, tax and estate documents, and entity details. From there, advisors open accounts with the chosen custodian, implement the agreed-upon investment strategy, and set clear expectations for communication, reporting, and future planning meetings.
Sunpointe Investments specializes in high net worth and multifamily office relationships. The firm’s minimum fee is $10,000 annually per client, and specific asset minimums may vary by service model. Prospective clients are encouraged to contact Sunpointe directly to discuss fit and relationship minimums.
Sunpointe provides consolidated reporting across accounts and entities, along with periodic performance and planning reviews. Communication includes scheduled review meetings, ongoing access to the advisory team, and educational content and insights to keep clients informed about markets and their progress toward goals.
