Alternative Investments
Our Private Markets Investments Are Selected With Discipline
Private markets have never been easier to access. The “democratization” of alternative investments offers new funds, platforms, and pitches every month, many promising access once reserved for institutions. What’s required is a seasoned group of professionals that can tell you which opportunities deserve a place in your portfolio and which ones don’t.
Sunpointe has managed alternative investments on behalf of its largest clients for many years, and three members of our team hold the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, a credential focused specifically on alternative investments. We evaluate each asset class on its own merits and screen out most of the funds we review. The select few that meet our standard, across private credit, private equity, and private real estate, can be added to client portfolios without access fees. For family office clients, we also build direct private equity and real asset programs and handle the subscription documents, capital calls, and reporting that come with them.
You’re Being Pitched Private Deals
Opportunities keep coming your way, and you want an experienced team to evaluate them before you commit capital you can’t easily get back.
Your Portfolio Is Mostly Public Markets
You hold stocks and bonds, and you want to understand whether private credit, private equity, or real estate could play a role.
You’re Building a Family Office Program
Your family wants a deliberate private equity or real asset program, with the modeling, manager selection, and administration handled for you.
Our Four-Step Approach to Private Markets
In private markets, the decisions made before you invest matter most, because getting out later is rarely simple. Here’s how we approach every opportunity.
Evaluate the Opportunity
We assess each asset class on its own merits, then put funds and managers through rigorous due diligence. Most don’t make the cut.
Model the Fit
We model how a private allocation would affect your portfolio, liquidity needs, and long-term plan before any capital is committed.
Implement with Care
We handle the subscription documents and help structure your commitments so they fit your plan and timeline.
Monitor and Report
We process capital calls, coordinate K-1s, and track your private holdings alongside the rest of your wealth in your consolidated reporting.
Inside Alternative Investments at Sunpointe
Alternative investments can broaden a portfolio beyond public stocks and bonds, but they also bring complexity, longer time horizons, and more paperwork. Here’s what our approach includes, and how each piece makes private markets easier to access, understand, and manage.
Private credit involves lending to companies outside the public bond market. We evaluate managers and structures carefully, because terms, risk, and liquidity vary widely from fund to fund.
Private equity invests in companies that aren’t publicly traded. We select managers through rigorous due diligence and help develop and model private equity programs over time.
Private real estate offers exposure to property outside public markets. We evaluate each opportunity on its own merits and consider how it fits alongside the rest of your holdings.
For family office clients, we design direct private equity and real asset programs that reflect the family’s goals, time horizon, and values.
Some platforms add a layer of cost just to reach private funds. Sunpointe does not charge access fees on private investments, and lower-fee share classes may be available.
Your private investments appear in your Addepar reporting alongside the rest of your wealth, including capital calls, distributions, and exposure, so you can see the full picture in one place.
Do Alternative Investments Belong in Your Portfolio?

Alternative investments work best as part of a larger strategy. These services connect your private holdings to your overall portfolio, to the discipline that long-term investing requires, and to the tax planning that complex assets call for, all coordinated through your Sunpointe relationship.
Portfolio Management
Private investments fit within our two-category risk framework, alongside the public market holdings that make up the rest of your portfolio.
Behavioral Finance
Private investments can’t be sold at a moment’s notice. Behavioral finance helps you commit with confidence and stay patient through long holding periods.
Tax Planning
Private investments add complexity at tax time, from K-1s to the timing of distributions. We coordinate with your CPA so your tax picture reflects them.

No. Sunpointe does not charge access fees on private investments. Some platforms add a layer of cost just to reach private funds, which reduces what investors keep over time. At Sunpointe, private investments are part of your overall relationship, and lower-fee share classes may be available. Fees charged by the underlying fund managers still apply, and we review them as part of our due diligence.
Sunpointe offers access to select opportunities in private credit, private equity, and private real estate, along with specialized funds in niche strategies more often associated with institutional platforms. For family office clients, we also build direct private equity and real asset programs. Each asset class is evaluated on its own merits, and only a small number of the funds we review meet our standard.
No. Sunpointe has long managed alternative investments for its largest clients and now makes select opportunities available to a broad range of clients. Direct private equity and real asset programs are designed specifically for family offices. Many private investments are limited to investors who meet certain income or net worth requirements, so availability depends on each client’s situation.
Every manager goes through a due diligence process led by our research team, which includes members who hold the CAIA designation. We look at each asset class on its own merits, then evaluate a fund’s strategy, team, track record, terms, fees, and liquidity before recommending it. Most funds we review don’t make the cut, and those that do continue to be monitored after they’re added to client portfolios.
Not always. Alternative investments typically involve longer holding periods, limited liquidity, more complex fees, and additional paperwork, and many are available only to investors who meet certain eligibility requirements. For some investors they can play a meaningful role, and for others public markets alone are the better fit. Sunpointe helps you weigh those trade-offs against your goals, liquidity needs, and overall plan.
